Maoists form largest party in Nepal Polls
Kathmandu, Apr 25 (UNI) The Maoists today emerged as the largest party in the Nepal polls, with 3,144,204 (29.28 per cent) votes under the Proportional Representation (PR) system with 220 seats in the 601-seat Constituent Assembly (CA).
The party got 120 seats in the 240 First Past the Post (FPTP)and 100 seats in the proportional representation system.
The Nepali Congress has become the second largest party with 2,269,823 votes under the PR system. The party has won 110 seats in the Assembly, while the Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) got 103 seats with 21,83,370 votes under the same system.
The MPRF has emerged as the fourth largest party with 52 seats in the CA polls and has garnered 6,78,300.
The Terai Madhes Democratic Party has won 20 seats, Sadbhavana Party nine, Rastriya Prajatantra Party has got eight seats, though not a single seat in the First Past the Post election.
A total of 16 parties, which have not won a single seat in the election, have got seats in the PR system. The Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Nepal, which is the only party to advocate for Constitutional Monarchy during the election has got four seats under the PR system.
The party could not get a single seat in the FPTP election.
This was the only party contesting the election with the slogan of monarchy, while the other major political parties favoured the Republican system.
The parties of the Terai have also got significant votes that affected the Nepali Congress.
