IPS officer played role in shooting college girl?

Bhopal, Apr 25 (UNI) Police are yet to reach any conclusion regarding the case of a local college girl who was shot and injured about a fortnight back though eyebrows are being raised on the alleged role of a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, a private nursing home's director and a retired official.

The bullet is still lodged in homeopathic college student Sheetal Thakur's ribs and doctors said that it is very close to the liver and the victim might suffer excessive bleeding if an attempt is made to extract it.

It is yet unknown whether the bullet was fired from a service revolver. Sheetal was targeted by an unidentified person late on April 11. She was provided treatment at a private nursing home prior to being shifted to the government-run Hamidia Hospital.

Sheetal has been discharged and physicians say that her life would not be endangered by the bullet remaining in her body. Her family is maintaining silence. The nursing home director and retired official were questioned by police.

There is an apprehension that somebody might be made a scapegoat to protect the IPS officer and that evidence could be tampered with.

Those ''under suspicion'' said that a competent official should be present when the bullet is extracted.
