Congress burns CMS's effigy over Dalit woman's death
Kanpur, Apr 25 (UNI) Congress workers today burnt Upper India Maternity hospital's Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) in effigy over the death of a dalit woman and her new born baby here.
Ranting slogans against the hospital authorities, the Congress workers assembled at the medical college crossing and marched to the maternity hospital.
Later, they burnt the effigy at the hospital gate.
Mayadevi, a pregnant Dalit woman of Banda district had arrived at the maternity hospital on Wednesday morning.
The doctor had demanded three bottles of blood, which Mayadevi's sister failed to submit, following which they refused to admit the patient.
Mayadevi delivered her baby at the hospital gate, who died after some time, a passersby inform about the incident to the District Magistrate and on his directives, the woman was later admitted in the hospital. However, she also expired on Wednesday night.
Eight resident doctors and the duty in-charge were suspended regarding the same.
