Cathlab in General Hospital in a month: Minister

Puducherry, Apr 25: The Cathlab at the Government General Hospital here would be commissioned in a month, Health Minister E Valsaraj told the Assembly today.

Replying to a question, Mr Valsaraj said the Cathlab was ready and trials conducted.

''There are no cardiac surgeons there. Only cardiac physicians are avaialable and surgeries can not be conducted without cardio thorasic surgeons,'' he informed.

As many as 1,800 heart patients were being treated at the hospital a year and about 2,200 patients have registered themselves with the speciality wing, he added.

Treatment for five days a week was being provided to them along with the required medicines. The administration would take steps to start a super speciality block there, the Minister said.
