Car bomb explosion in Pakistan kills four, injures 30

Peshawar, Apr 25 : At least four people were killed and thirty other injured in a car bomb explosion that demolished a police station in North West Frontier Province (NWFP).

The explosion took place in Mardan city of NWFP.

Taliban spokesman Maulvi Omar told a foreign news agency that the blast was in revenge for the militant commander Hafiz Saeedul Haq's killing.

Omar, however, added that a ceasefire declared this week by top insurgent commander Baitullah Mehsud would remain intact.

"There was a huge explosion. It was an apparent car bomb planted next to the wall between a hotel and the police station and both were wrecked," senior police officer Mohammad Akhtar Khan.

Two policemen, including an officer and two civilian workers died, while several shops were also destroyed, Khan added.

According to officials, 30 people, including ten police who were inside the building were injured.

"People are saying that a man in a Suzuki car came to the hotel, parked his car outside, ordered a cup of tea and then disappeared," the Dawn quoted a witness, as saying.
