200 employees arrested for picketing
Puducherry, Apr 25 (UNI) As many as 200 daily-rated and part time employees of the Education Department were arrested when they picketed the office of the Education Director here today.
The employees were on a fast unto death demanding regularisation of the daily-rated employees and conversion of part time employees into daily-rated.
Earlier, the employees decided to picket the Legislative Assembly and gathered infront of the Education Department to take out a procession from there.
However, following an altercation between the employees and an offical in the department, the police prevented the employees from entering the office to submit a complaint to the Director.
Following this they picketed the office of the Director and courted arrest.
Meanwhile, dhobis resorted to a novel agitation to press their demands. They washed clothes infront of the Puducherry Municipality demanding all facilities at Nellithoppe constituency to wash clothes.
In another incident, tension prevailed at Kirumambakkam when a mob picketed the Kirumambkkam Police Station to protest against the police custody of a woman, wo was allegedly involved in a murder case.
However, following the assurance from the police that she would be released immedietly, the mob called off their agitation.
