Utilise 15% profit of Pondy Power Corp for developments in Karaikkal

Puducherry, Apr 24 (UNI) The Puducherry administration would utilise 15 per cent profit of the Pondicherry Power Corporation for developmental schemes in Karaikal region, Minister for Industries V Vaithilingam told the Legislative Assembly today.

Repying to a calling attention motion tabled by AIADMK member A Anbazhagan on laying of an underground pipeline in Yanam by Reliance Industries for the transport of natural gas, Mr Vaithilingam said the terrotorial administration had entered into an MoU with Reliance Industries on August 23, 2006, which was valid for two years from the date of execution. As per the MoU Reliance agreed to provide available natural gas, on a priority basis and on certain terms and conditions, to the proposed 250 mw power plant to be set up in Yanam by an agency nominated by the government.

Mr Vaithilingam said that the administration is desirous of making gas available to industries in Yanam and developing City Gas Distribution Network and also to cooperate in identifying markets for promoting natural gas supply to industrial, commericial and domestic segements in Yanam.

He also said Reliance agrees to suppliment the efforts of local administration in respect of social welfare measures such as primary education, health service and promotion of sports and cutural activities, besides constructing a 100 metre tower like monument like that of Eiffel tower.
