Seven dead, several injured in road accident in HP

Chamba, Apr 24 (UNI) At least seven passengers were killed and several injured when a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus, they were traveling in, veered off the road and fell into a gorge in Chamba district of the state today, Deputy Commissioner Manish Garg said.

The accident occurred at Dehgran, about 88 km from here, on the Chamba-Sanwal road at 1534 hrs this afternoon, he told UNI.

Mr Garg said while six passengers died on the spot another succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital.

The injured were admitted to a government hospital at Tissa where doctors described the condition of a few serious.

Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) and ITBP personnel immediately rushed to the accident site and began relief and rescue operations along with local people and helped in bringing the injured to the road from the gorge.

The DC said he along with other senior district officials and a rescue team, comprising doctors, also left for the accident site to supervise rescue and relief operations.

The cause of the accident was, however, not immediately known, he said and added that the injured have been identified.
