Programme to bring back Indian scientists from abroad

Bangalore, Apr 24 (UNI) The Union Government has chalked out an ambitious programme with the help of Welcome Trust to bring back thousands of expatriate Indian bio-technocrats to set up units in India, Union BT Secretary M K Bhan said today.

Speaking on the sidelines of the inaugural function of the 'Bangalore Bio-2008', he said the Centre had taken the help of Welcome Trust to launch the huge programme to attract Indian BT Scientists, either working abroad or have set up companies, to India.

''This is a kind of very attractive package for young Indians to come back. This is among a series of initiatives by the government to lay a solid foundation for advancement of scientific education and research process in the life science sector,'' he added.

About 3,000 such scientists were likely to return to India in the next few years, he said.
