Policemen kill youth in Vaishali

Hajipur, Apr 24 (UNI) A youth was allegedly shot dead by policemen today following a scuffle when the latter raided his residence to arrest him at Mirzapur village under Raghopur Police Station in Vaishali district in connection with a case.

Official sources here said Suresh Rai's uncle had lodged a case in Raghopur Police Station against him following a family dispute.

Officer-in-Charge Vinod Kumar, leading a team of Special Auxiliary Police (SAP), reached Rai's residence to arrest him in connection with the case. Rai put up a stiff resistance and got engaged in a scuffle with the security personnel.

The sources said the enraged SAP jawans allegedly opened fire, at the instance of Mr Vinod Kumar, killing Rai on the spot. As the news spread, locals gathered at the spot and began protesting against the policemen.

Senior police officers rushed to the spot to quell angry locals ordered to register cases against the erring policemen. The irate villagers were pacified only after the case was registered against the OC and other policemen involved.
