Kerala Prohibition Council to stage satyagraha

Kozhikode, Apr 24 (UNI) The Kerala Prohibition Council (KPC) will stage indefinite 'satyagraha' in Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur from May to press their demands, including reintroduction of clauses 232 and 447 of the Panchayati Raj Nagarapalika Bills.

Addressing a press conference here, KPC President Fr Thomas Thythottam said these clauses were revoked by the previous Left Democratic Government, headed by late Chief Minister E K Nayanar, claiming huge revenue loss to the administration.

The clauses enabled the local bodies to decide on the continuance of toddy/liquor shops in their jurisdiction, he said.

The other demands included implementation of Udayabhanu Commission report on prohibition and state-sponsored awareness campaign against alcoholism, he added.
