Govt approves amendment in RPA
New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) To ensure free and fair elections, the government today approved the introduction of a Bill for amendments in the Representation of the People Act 1951.
Amendment to sections 8A, 34, 123(7) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 would provide for a time limit of three months within which the specified authorities would have to submit the case of a guilty person to the President.
Amendment to clause (a) section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 would substitute the words ''districts magistrate or additional district magistrate'' in place of ''chief electoral officer'', Minister of Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told mediapersons here.
Another clause (b) may be inserted in section 24 of the said Act to provide for appeals, namely:- (a) To the chief electoral officer from any order of the district magistrate or additional district magistrate under clause (a) above.
