Lucknow, Apr 24 (UNI) Slamming Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for being interested in accusing others for her own lapses, Congress today said the recent visit of their party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi in backward areas of Bundelkhand region in UP and MP was to empower the people about their rights.

''The visit of Mr Gandhi was very secret...he went in the villages as a common man just to assess the situation and aware them about their rights,'' claimed UP Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi, who accompanied Rahul in his recent tour.

She also blamed BSP for indirectly helping BJP in the Karnataka polls by fielding candidates in all the seats. ''Ms Mayawati was just trying to help out the BJP against Congress in Karnataka,'' Ms Joshi said addressing media.

Though herself admitting that 'Rahul is a Prime Minister material,' the Congress leader said that the tour was such planned that even the villagers did not know about Rahul and the party workers were not aware about the tour.

Criticising the UP CM on her outburst against Rahul and the BSP's threat to withdraw support from the UPA government at the centre, she said such a statement was only an act of frustration.

''UP government's demand of Rs 80,000 crore package is not justified, as it could not spend even Rs 36,000 crores given by the Centre in 2007-08,'' Ms Joshi said, adding that there was enough funds with the state government for developmental works.

She alleged that corruption was rampant in the state and every minister is minting money.

The Congress leader also charged the CM of neglecting the rural areas, as she had never tried to visit any village herself to take stock of the development works.'' Ms Mayawati rode on the pillon of the bi-cycle with late Kanshi Ram to generate her cadre of poor and downtrodden in the state, but now BSP cadre have changed its definition to rich and big people,'' she further alleged.

Announcing that the Congress would launch a mammoth agitational programme against the corruption in the state, Ms Joshi said after May 30 the party would go for big demonstration under the 'Hishab Mango Programme' to force the state government to provide details of all the developmental projects.
