8 junior doctors suspended over death of infant, mother

Kanpur, Apr 24 (UNI) Eight junior doctors of Upper India Maternity hospital, affiliated with the G S V M medical college here, were suspended for their apathy towards a Dalit pregnant woman.

According to reports, Maya Devi (28) of Banda district had yesterday arrived at the Maternity hospital for delivery.

The doctors asked Maya's sister to arrange for three bottles of blood. But when she failed to do it so, the doctors asked them to go out of the hospital.

In severe pains, Maya gave birth to a baby at the gate of the hospital, but later both the infant and the mother died.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and the district administration were informed about the matter.

Taking action, the CM suspended the Hospital Superintendent last night and ordered a probe into the matter.

Besides, the CM announced financial aide of Rs 1,00,000 to the victim's family.

A team of minority commission today arrived here from Lucknow and would submit its report to the CM after the completion of the probe.
