UNPA, Left jointly protest price rise in UP

Lucknow, Apr 23: The United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) and the Left parties today held a joint agitation against price hike at all the district headquarters in Uttar Pradesh.

During the agitation, the speakers denounced both the Central and the Uttar Pradesh government for the increasing prices of essential commodities.
Lambasting state Chief Minister Mayawati for being anti-farmer, the speakers said ''she only knows how to favour profiteers.'' Commonman also participated in this massive protest, where a memorandum urging President's intervention to control the shooting prices was demanded.

The memorandum stated that the Public Distribution System system should be made stronger, essential grocery items should be sold through ration shops, retail prices of petrol and diesel should be checked and VAT implementation with the acceptance of state traders.

In Etawah, the protest was led by UP Samajwadi Party (SP) acting president Shivpal Singh Yadav and CPM state secretary Kamred Mukut Singh. In Kanpur, CPM leader and former MP Subhashani Ali fired salvo at the Centre for its wrong policies.
