TN Assembly passes resolution to resolve ethnic crisis in SL
Chennai, Apr 23 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Assembly today passed a resolution urging the Centre to initiate steps for restoration of talks to find a political solution to the ethnic crisis in Sri Lanka, after the Congress and PMK, constituents of the DMK-led DPA, locked horns over the issue.
The resolution, moved by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, also urged the Centre to take steps to bring the two warring factions in Sri Lanka to the negotiating table to find a peaceful solution to the crisis.
''The Centre should come forward and make arrangements for meaningful talks between the warring groups to find a political solution and restore peace in the island nation,'' it added.
The resolution was passed by voice vote and it was welcomed by the Congress and the PMK, after the two parties created ruckus in the House, when PMK floor leader G K Mani made some remarks, which drew opposition from the Congress.
