Three killed by tusker at temple festival

Thrissur, Apr 23: Three people, including a woman, were killed when an elephant ran amok at the Irinjalakuda Koodamanikaiya temple in this district today.

The tusker, 'Tiruvalla Unnikrishnan', had been brought to the temple in connection with the ongoing temple festival.

The incident occurred just after the 'karchashiveli' ritual in the afternoon.

The deceased have not been identified yet.

Meanwhile, efforts were on to chain the tusker. A squad from the forest department had already reached the spot to give the elephant a tranquiliser shot.
