SIMI carrys out clandestine activity despite arrests, ban

New Delhi, Apr 23 (UNI) Even though more than 70 activists of Students Islamic Movement of India have been arrested during the last year, the banned organisation has been carrying out its clandestine meetings, Parliament was informed today.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha that despite the ban, SIMI had been carrying out its activities clandestinely including holding of organisational meetings and circulation of literature.

More than 70 male SIMI activists have been arrested during the last year as per reports from Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, NCT of Delhi and Karnataka. No foreign national is among those arrested.

Unlawful activities of SIMI have come to notice in Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
