Registeration of labourers essential: Una SP

Una, Apr 23 (UNI) As part of the pre-election arrangements in view of the Hamirpur parliamentary by-elections and murder of 14 year school in Hamirpur district, the district police has launched a special drive to register names of all domestic helpers, contract labourers and daily wagers at the nearest police stations.

The antecedents of all such persons, who are not permanent residents of the district, will be be verified by the local police from their original place of residence, Una SP Gyaneshwar Singh said, while addressing a news conference here.

He said this would enable the police to identify criminal history sheeters and also check crime here.

Mr Singh warned of action under Section 185 of the IPC against employers or contractors for not registering the labourers with the local police station.

Stressing the need for better policing, he said beat system was being strengthened and added that a rural beat would include four contiguous panchayats, where a core group has been designated to interact with one police person and a Home Guard jawan.

In the urban areas, he said, each ward would comprise a beat.

The SP said since Una district shared the longest border with Punjab inter-state meetings of police officers from Una, Hoshiarpur and Ropar districts would be held shortly, starting from the level of SHOs to SPs.

This would ensure greater co-ordination during sealing of borders 48 hours before elections, he added.

Mr Singh said quick reaction teams were being formed which will reach the scene of crime in the shortest possible time.

The exercise for vulnerability mapping of election booths was in the process and that the exact tally of sensitive and hyper-sensitive booths would be decided after the exercise, he added.

This time, he said, hyper sensitive booths would have three uniformed personnel instead of two. These would be one NGO, one constable and one Home Guard jawan.
