HC issues notices for levying tax on sale of yoga camp tickets
Jaipur, Apr 23 (UNI) The Rajasthan High Court has issued notices to the officials concerned of the State Government and the Centre in a petition filed to urge for levying of tax on coupons sold for participation in Baba Ramdev's Yoga camp being organised in Alwar from Saturday.
Petitioner Matsaya Mewat and Development Institute Alwar Secretary Dr Virender Singh Vidhroi has told the court that entry coupons of Rs 100, Rs 500, Rs 1,100 and Rs 2,100 had been issued for participation in the Yoga camp being organised under the guidance of Baba Ramdev in Alwar between April 27 and May 2.
The petitioner said since this coupon purchase could not be treated a voluntary donation the revenue generated from its sale should be liable to tax under Rajasthan Entertainment and Advertisement Tax Act 1957.
The Division Bench of Justice RM Lodha and Justice RS Rathore issued notices to Finance Secretary (Government of India), Principal Secretary, Finance(Rajasthan), Chief Income Tax Commissioner (Rajasthan), Commerical Tax Commissioner, District Collector Alwar and Patanjali Yoga Vikas Samiti Alwar.
The notices are returnable by May 23 next.
