BJP asks for review of VIth Pay Commission Recommendations
New Delhi, Apr 22 (UNI) The BJP today asked the UPA Government to review the recommendations of the VIth Pay Commission in view of strong resentment among a majority of government employees, particularly those belonging to Defence and paramilitary forces, over the report.
The party announced its support to the proposed Dharna by defence personnel here on April 26 to protest against several anomalies in the Pay Commission Report.
Briefing newspersons after the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting, the party's Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha V K Malhotra said the BJP would urge the government to remove the anomalies to satisfy the agitated employees. ''No section should feel that they have been discriminated against in the report,'' he said.
Addressing the meeting, Leader of the Opposition L K Advani said the report had created a lot of disparity among various sections of employees. He referred to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's statement at a function where he himself spoke of the need for better wages for civil and defence personnel.
Welcoming Dr Singh's statement, Mr Advani called for a total review of the recommendations saying a revision of the pay scale of defence personnel would only satisfy only one section of employees.
''We want that the government revise the wages of police and judicial services personnel also,'' he said.
Mr Advani said a review of the pay commission recommendations for defence and paramilitary forces was necessary particularly in the light of the present internal security scenario. Similar was the case with the Judiciary, he said.
