AIADMK member clashes with CM over Reliance issue

Puducherry, Apr 23 (UNI) AIADMK member A Anbazhagan today clashed with Chief Minister N Rangasamy over the Memorandum of Understanding signed with Reliance Industries, permitting them to take gas through the Yanam region of the Union Territory.

After the Zero Hour, Speaker R Radhakrishnan invited Education Minister M O H F Shajahan to move his demands for discussion. As Mr Shajahan was moving the demand for his departments, Mr Anbazhagan rose to his feet to point out that his question on the issue of Reliance was being postponed.

He said last year also he had raised the same question which was postponed and never taken up and the same thing was happening now.

As apprehension of corruption to the tune of Rs 100 crore was there, he had posed the question and wondered what was the secret in the deal.

Mr Anbazhagan also pointed out that he had sought the details under the Right To Information Act and was given a reply that the agreement with Reliance was cancelled and hence details could not be provided. However, the scheme was still on, he charged.

Mr Rangasamy said there was still time and the question of the member would be answered or the member could raise the issue in the discussion on demand for grants.

With several members joining the issue, the House plunged into noisy scenes.

Leader of the Opposition A M H Nazeem suggested that there was no need for any debate and Chief Minister could place a report in the House on the issue.

The Chief Minister said the answer for the question would be given in the current session, putting an end to the issue.
