AFT Staff gives bandh call
Puducherry, Apr 23 (UNI) The agitating employees of the government- owned Anglo-French Textile (AFT) Mills have called for a 24-hour bandh on April 25 to exert pressure on the government to consider their demands.
This was announced by AFT Employees Joint Action Committee Leader Vazhumuni while adressing a rally taken out by the workers and their family members who were on a fast for the past 29 days, here this evening.
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi Leader Thol Thirumavalavan addressed the rally.
Mr Vazumuni said the AFT employees were agitating for the past 34 days but no action was taken so far by the government.
In the meantime, the government had announced the payment of interim relief which was not their demand.
Rejecting the announcement of the Chief Minister, Mr Vazhumuni said their only demand was provision of Central DA on par with the officers and staff at the mills.
The employees would burn their electoral photo identity cards (EPIC) at the venue of their fast tomorrow and organise the bandh on April 25 with the support of all sections of the people here.
