5 women dead in road accident

Kolhapur, Apr 23 (UNI) Five women were killed and one person seriously injured, when a Tata Indica car fell from a bridge, near Vathar in Karad tehsil of Satara district on Pune-Bangalore National Highway today.

The women, from the same family, were returning back to Kolhapur from Pune after attending a marriage, when the car driver lost control on the wheel and the vehicle fell about 500 feet down from the road bridge, killing the five women on the spot, police said.

The deceased were identified as Savitri Basgonda Kamat from Belgaum town, Dakshyani Shiddappa Desai of Bugadeekatee in Gadinglaj tehsil of the district, Shanta Jingonda Patil from city's Tarabai Park, Laxmiba Devgonda Patil and Shakuntala Mahaveer Patil, both from Udgaon village in Shirol tehsil of the district, police said.

The seriously injured car driver was admitted to the Krushna Hospital, Karad, police informed.
