Two journalists held for extortion
Moga, Apr 22 (UNI) Moga district police today arrested two journalists from Ferozepur for allegedly extorting a doctor.
SSP Moga Ashok Baath in a press conference here said that one of the journalists, Jagdish Kumar, is a photographer, while the other one, Jaswant Singh, is associated with a local news channel.
The SSP said the two journalists demanded Rs 65,000 from a Ludhiana-based BAMS doctor Jaswinder Singh, who used to visit Moga regularly, threatening him that they would expose him for allegedly providing fake medicines.
The matter was settled for Rs 17,000. The doctor gave Rs two thousand to the journalists and had called them today at a local bus stand to hand over the remaining amount.
Meanwhile, the doctor's compounder informed the police.
Accordingly, the police laid a trap at Moga's Punjab Roadways bus stand and nabbed the journalists red-handed when the compounder was handing over the money to them.
A case under sections 392, 420 and 506 of IPC was registered against them.
The SSP said police investigation revealed that both the accused were habitual of such crimes as they were earlier also involved in a similar case at Ferozepur.
