TN CM seeks cooperation from political parties to combat terrorism
Chennai, Apr 22 (UNI) Asserting that terrorism should be handled the way natural calamities like floods, cyclone and earthquake were handled, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today sought the cooperation of all political parties in reforming the youths to wean away from taking to terrorism.
Replying to a special call attention motion given notice of by various political parties on the encounter killing of Maoist leader Naveen at Kodaikanal forest areas on April 19, he said all political parties should join hands with the government to address the problem.
Observing that how political parties putting behind their differences join together in times of natural calamities like floods and earthquake to take preventive measures, Mr Karunanidhi said likewise, whenever the incidents of terrorism and Naxalism raised its ugly head all parties should come together to prevent it.
Agreeing with the views of some members that educated and unemployed youth were taking the path of Naxalism to achieve their social objective, Mr Karunanidhi said to wean them away from it and to bring them to the path of democracy one has to ascertain why they took to arms and violence.
''We have to go deep into the matter and reform them as future youths of the country to ensure peace and tranquility in the state.'' Recalling various incidents of terrorism that took place over the years irrespective of the party in power, Mr Karunanidhi said the government had taken all precautionary measures, like installation of checkposts in the border areas and heightening coastal security, to control the movement of Naxal activities and banned organisations in the state.
