Prohibitory orders in Rangapahar Zoological Park
Kohima, Apr 22 (UNI) The Nagaland government has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC in the Zoological Park in Rangapahar Reserved Forest under Dimapur district following rampant encroachment.
Official sources said here today the order came into force following allegations that some people had demolished a church inside the park territory and tried to occupy the area.
However, they were chased away by the police and Forest Guards later.
The state government also deployed Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel to thwart any encroachment in the Reserved Forest area of the park.
Meanwhile, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, in a statement warned the encroachers that the government had every means within its authority to enforce the rule of law.
He also reiterated that the protected park was one of a few sanctuaries for Nagaland's disappearing wildlife.
Mr Rio said the tribal bodies and students' organisations were expected to make the people understand the importance of wildlife conservation.
