Puducherry, Apr 22: Members of the Puducherry Munnetra Congress, AIADMK and MDMK staged walkouts in the territorial Assembly today.

During Zero Hour, PMC member V K Ganapathy, through a special mention brought to the notice of the House, the plight of workers of the Jaiprakash Narayan Cooperative Spinning mill at Karaikal, and said the workers who had resorted to a 'road roko' were arrested and remanded for 15 days.

Stating that it was the duty of the government to redress their grievences, he said the workers were demanding salary and other allowances on par with the employees of SPINCO, the cooperative spinning mill here.

As there was no reply from Chief Minister N Rangasamy, the PMC members staged a walkout.

Later, the lone MDMK member P R Siva, through another special mention, raised the same issue and staged a walkout protesting the failure of the government to initiate steps to redress the workers grievences.

AIADMK members also staged a walkout to protest the failure of Speaker R Radhakrishnan to admit an adjournment motion tabled by Legislature Party leader A Anbazhagan.

As soon as the House met for the day, Mr Anbazhagan rose to his feet and said he had given an adjournment motion to discuss the incidents at the Central prison here and it should be taken.

The Speaker informed the member that a decision on his adjourment motion would be taken after the Question Hour. However, after Zero Hour, the speaker informed Mr Anbazhagan that since several members, had talked on the jail issue, he was not admitting the adjourment motion.

Protesting against this, the AIADMK members staged a walkout.
