Haryana on target in wheat procurement
Chandigarh, Apr 22 (UNI) The arrival of the wheat in the mandis of Haryana has picked up and so far 27.44 lakh metric tonnes of the foodgrain had been purchased by the government procuring agencies at the MSP of Rs 1000 per quintal.
A record 3.69 lakh metric tonnes wheat arrived in the mandis in the state yesterday, Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said here today.
He said that the total arrival of wheat in the mandis was 27.54 lakh metric tonnes which was 7.16 lakh metric tonnes more than the arrival during the corresponding period of last year.
The six government procuring agencies had purchased 99.5 per cent of the total wheat that had arrived in the mandis.
He said that the traders had purchased 10,000 metric tonnes wheat which was merely half per cent of the total arrival while last year during the total procurement season the traders had purchased 3.87 lakh metric tonnes of wheat which was about 10 per cent of the total arrival.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that Karnal district was leading in wheat arrivals with 4.83 lakh MTs followed by Kaithal 4.21 lakh MTs, Jind 3.08 lakh MTs, Fatehabad 2.82 lakh MTs, Kurukshetra 2.32 lakh MTs, Sirsa 2.23 lakh MTs, Faridabad 1.79 lakh MTs, Panipat 1.29 lakh MTs, Sonipat 1.08 lakh MTs, Gurgaon 26968 MTs and Mewat 19135 MTs.
Haryana is expected to contribute 40 lakh MTs of wheat to the Central Pool.
