Diabetic speciality centre soon: Govt

Puducherry, Apr 22: The puducherry administration will take steps to start a diabetic speciality centre in the Union Territory, Health Minister E Valsaraj told the Legislative Assembly today.

Replying to a question, he said presently a diabetic clinics was functioning in which 750-1000 patients were getting treatment three days a week.

He said the speciality centre could not be set up immediately due to lack of space and it would be started once the women and child hospital at Ellaipillaichavady here was commissioned.

To another question, Agriculture Minister V Vaithilingam said the adminsitration would consider provide saplings of sandlwood trees to farmers here.

Stating that prior permission of the government was not required to grow sandalwood, he, however, said permission of the Tahsildar was necessary to cut the trees.
