Srinagar-Leh NH to reopen for heavy traffic from May 1
Jammu, Apr 21 (UNI) The Srinagar-Leh National Highway, which remained closed during winter season, would be reopened for heavy vehicular movement from May 1.
The decision was taken at a meeting held here last evening under the chairmanship of Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Transport Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen while reviewing the movement of essential commodities besides constructional material to the Ladakh region.
''The 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh National Highway has been cleared of snow while the state government has swung into action and took steps for ensuring timely supplies to Ladakh region,'' the Minister said.
''The regular traffic on the Highway would be allowed from May 1 while, priority would be accorded to transportation of essential supplies including food grains, construction material and petroleum products for summer season, and stocking of supplies for next winter months,'' Mr Yaseen said.
