Haryana to groom cops to be media-savvy: DGP

Kurukshetra, Apr 21 (UNI) The Haryana police will not only be made media savvy, it will also disseminate information to the local media through the police PROs who will now be well-educated and trained journalism diploma or degree holders, Haryana DGP R S Dalal said here today.

Even the police officers of junior ranks will be allowed to disseminate information and crime reports to the media to put the things straight, Mr Dalal said while speaking in a seminar organised by the local unit of the Haryana Patrakar Sangh.

Over 100 Haryana cops of above ASI rank from all over the state, had participation in a seminar on Press, Police and Public where leading journalists and political leaders expressed their views both in favour and also against the Haryana police activities.

The Haryana DGP said that the cops will be provided housing accomodation near their place of work to relieve them of stress.

They would also be provided mobile phones, he added.

Mr Dalal said that along with those cops who were promoted for nabbing hardcore criminals, even those cops who help trace criminals by their investigative expertise, would also be promoted.

''This will help the Haryana police to nab the criminals and also pursue the court cases in a fitting manner so that the criminals were punished by the courts,'' he said.
