7 arrested in Kanchrapara jewellery shop robbery and murder case
Barrackpore, Apr 21 (UNI) At least seven people were today arrested by Dhanekhali police from Nadia in connection with the dacoity and murder case at Kanchrapara jewellery house under Beejpur police station in North 24 Parganas.
Forty two-year-old Chandana Das, wife of the shop-owner, was killed allegedly by armed gansters, who pushed her off the balcony of her third floor residence after looting the shop on Kanchrapara Workshop Road on February 21.
Police have seized a huge amount of jewellery and cash from their possession, police sources said today.
Earlier, police arrested six people in this connection, who were then remanded to judicial custody.
Growing criminal activities in Kanchrapara area has angered inhabitants of the area and also the business community, who expressed resentment against police inaction to curb the menace and observed a business bandh, demanding arrest of the miscreants.
The ruling political party leadership in the district has also expressed similar views and even sought the chief minister's intervention in the case.
