Patiala distt leads in wheat procurement in country
Chandigarh, Apr 20 (UNI) Patiala district has been leading the country in wheat procurement with over six lakh tonnes having been purchased so far by the government procurement agencies and the private traders.
According to official figures released by the Punjab government, the six government agencies and private millers had so far procured more than 26.68 lakh tonnes of wheat in the state. Of the total pruchase, Patiala district had accounted for 6.04 lakh tonnes, which was the highest in the country so far.
The government agencies had procured 26.21 lakh tonnes of wheat till date while private traders had lifted 47,124 tonnes of wheat.
Of the five state government agencies, Markfed and PUNSUP had each accounted for over six lakh tonnes of wheat. The Central government agency, FCI had been able to procure 2.47 lakh tonnes, which was just 9.5 per cent of the total purchase.
In terms of district wise purchase, Sangrur with 4.89 lakh tonnes was at the second spot after Patiala while the border district of Ferozepur was third with over three lakh tonnes.
