No mercy to Sarabjit, others likely to get clemency

Lahore, Apr 20: Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani's Adviser on Interior Affairs, Rehman Malik, has said that with the exception of Sarabjit Singh, the Indian on death row in Pakistan for the last 17 years, all other death row inmates may have their sentences changed to life imprisonment.

Malik told reporters here that only President Pervez Musharraf would take a final decision on Sarabjit Singh's case, while the fate of the rest of those on death row was in line with the policy of the Pakistan People"s Party (PPP). He was talking to reporters after a visit to the FIA headquarters building destroyed in a suicide attack on March 11. He announced Rs 600,000 each for the families of the 14 FIA employees who had died in the March 11 suicide attack on the FIA headquarters in Lahore – Rs 100,000 from the government and Rs 500,000 from the FIA.

One member from the each of the families would be given a job in the FIA, the Daily Times quoted him, as saying.
