Haryana govt augments rural drinking water supply
Bhiwani, Apr 20 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said the State government had augmented the supply of potable drinking water in 2691 villages during the last three years and the, Rajiv Gandhi Drinking Water Supply scheme had also been launched in Mewat to augment water supply at a cost of Rs 206 crore.
The Chief Minister was addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone of water supply scheme to be built at a cost of Rs 1.30 crore at Nangal village of the district.
The construction work of this water works would be completed by April 2009 which would supply 70 litres of water per day per person to the residents of Nangal village.
He said that to ensure equitable distribution of water in the state, Bhakra Main Line Hansi Bhutana Multi Purpose Link Canal was being constructed at a cost of Rs 354 crore and Dadupur Nalvi Canal at a cost of Rs 267 crore.
Mr Hooda said that till now over three lakh free of cost water connections have been released to the families belonging to scheduled castes under Indira Gandhi Potable Drinking Water Scheme which envisages giving eight lakh such connections. A water-tank of 200 litre capacity and a tap had also been given free of cost along with these connections, he added.
Haryana, he said was the first state in the country to give maximum compensation amount to the farmers for the acquisition of their land besides royalty for 33 years.
Regarding the power shortage in the state, the Chief Minister said that a total of 4087 MW power was available in the state as against the demand of 6000 MW. The State government had fixed a target of generating 5000 MW of additional power in the state.
At present, two units of 300 MW each had been commissioned in the Deen Bandhu Chottu Ram Thermal Power Plant, Yamunangar. A 1200 MW power plant at village Khedar of Hisar and Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Plant of the same capacity at Jharli village in Jhajjar were being set up in the state, he added.
He announced to give Rs 11 lakh for the development of Nangal village besides acceding to the demand of the villagers for a concrete road from Nangal to Ajitpura. He said that the state government had already given Rs 10 lakh to the village for its development.
Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Mr Dharambir and local MLA, Shivshankar Bhardwaj also spoke on the occasion.
