Collaborative research on Andaman's medicinal plants
Port Blair, April 20 (UNI) The Centre have proposed to initiate the collaborative research on medicinal plants between Andaman's Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) and AYUSH.
AYUSH, Union Ministry of Health, secretary Anita Das informed this at an inter-departmental meeting held at RMRC here yesterday.
''Different departments are documenting the medicinal plants that are known to exist in these islands and it would be fruitful if these plants are tested for their antimicrobial activities,'' Ms Das said.
She further said needful would be done to facilitate any such research activity undertaken on medicinal plants here.
RMRC Director Dr P Vijayachari highlighted the activities of the centre in medical research and achievements of this Centre including the establishment of the etiology of Andaman Haemorrhagiac Fever as leptospirosis.
He also highlighted the work carried out by his Centre in tribal health including hepatitis, malaria, diurnally sub-periodic filariasis, and chikungunya.
