AP Cong shortlists candidates by by-polls
Hyderabad, Apr 20 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has shortlisted candidates for the ensuing byelections in the State even as APCC president D Srinivas left for New Delhi this evening to submit the list to the Pary High Command for final approval.
The APCC president completed his two-day exercise of shortlisting the candidates for the May 29 by-polls for which Mr Srinivas and Rajya Sabha Member K V P Ramachandra Rao had met DCC presidents and Ministers-in-Charge of Karimnagar, Adilabad, Warangal, Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Ranga Reddy, Medak, Mahaboongar and Hyderabad.
There were several aspirants to contest the elections and the High Command would take a decision based on the list submitted by the PCC, party sources said here today.
Mr Srinivas also held discussions with State Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhra Reddy before leaving for Delhi, the sources said.
The Chief Minister would also hold consultations with the High Command before the list is finalised.
The byelection was necessiated in 16 assembly constituencies and four Lok Sabha seats, following the resignation of the Legislators and MPs belonging to the Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) protesting the Congress' attitude to separate Telangana.
