EC issues notice for violation of code of conduct
Udupi, Apr 19 (UNI) The issue of inauguration of 21 houses for poor labour class families tomorrow, built by Parivara Samudaya Abhivriddhi Charitable Trust and former Udupi MLA, K Raghupathy Bhat, who is seeking re-election on BJP ticket had triggered a major controversy with allegation of violation of election code of conduct.
The election officer of Kaup Assembly constituency had issued a notice to Mr Bhat, seeking his explanation for violating the code of conduct.
The officer had also referred the issue to the Chief Election Commissioner(CEC), based on the written complaint received from the Udupi district Janata Dal(S) president Deviprasad Shetty.
It may be recalled that Mr Bhat had constructed 21 RCC roofed houses for 21 poor labour class families residing since last several decades in the thatched houses at Matadakudru, on the river bank near Udyavara in Udupi Taluk now coming under Kaup Assembly segment after Delimitation.
He was planning to conduct housewarming ceremony and mass Satyanarayana Pooja tomorrow, for which, the former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, had been invited.
