REACH export directive to come into force from Dec
Bangalore, Apr 18 (UNI) Exports to countries in the European Union (EU) will come under a new directive REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals), from December this year, EU-based Bureau Veritas Vice-President David Horlock said today.
Speaking at a seminar on REACH, he said pre-registration was requisite for Indians traders exporting goods to EU and they should complete it before December one.
He said REACH established a registration system for chemical substances that requires the traceability of chemicals and identification of chemical substances within goods, including articles and preparations.
The new legislation was aimed at setting safety standards and protecting human health and the environment from the effects of hazardous chemicals.
The seminar was organised by Bureau Veritas, an international group with competence in conformity assessment of products, processes, assets and systems to educate manufacturers, exporters, distributors and retailers about the new EU regulation, he said.
Bureau Veritas was presently conducting seminars in Indian cities to explain the impact of REACH on businesses.
Veritas, a product assessment company established in 1828, had developed a solution to manage the chemical supply chain complexities of the REACH, Horlock added.
