Major tragedy averted, IED recovered in Kashmir
Srinagar, Apr 18 (UNI) Security forces today averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by militants near a college in north Kashmir while another mortar shell was recovered in south Kashmir.
Official sources said a Road Opening Party (ROP) of security forces noticed an IED planted by militants to target security convoy near Degree college at Baramulla.
The entire area was cordoned off and traffic on the road stopped from both sides. People present in the area were taken to safer places.
They said later Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) defused the IED without causing any damage.
A live mortar shell was also detected and defused by BDS near community hall at Bijbehara in south Kashmir.
They said had the IED and mortar shells not been detected and defused, these would have caused much damage to life and property.
