Front without pol banner will be able to unsettle CPI(M): Dasmunshi
Kolkata, Apr 18(UNI) Calling for Opposition unity without any political banner in Nandigram, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Priyaranjan Das Munshi today said the Congress would wait till the end for such a move to ensure defeat of the CPI(M).
'' We shall wait till April 21, the last day for withdrawl of candidates, for formation of such a front under the banner of Bhumi Uchched Protirodh Committee (BUPC). If it materialises, we shall pull out our nominees,'' he told newspersons here.
Participating in a day-long dharna against the 'atrocities' of the CPI(M), Mr Dasmunshi, also the President of the Pradesh Congress Committee, said only a front without political banner would be able to unsettle the CPI(M).
'' The opposition parties should fight under BUPC, that spearheaded the anti-land acquisition movement and field independent candidates.
Such a front would oust the CPI(M),'' he said.
A joint fight under the BUPC banner would be the perfect tribute to the 'martyrs' of the anti-land acquisition movement in Nandigram,'' he observed.
Alleging that the CPI(M) was resorting to largescale violence and intimidation, Mr Dasmunshi urged Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to take measures to control the situation.
'' The Chief Minister did not take any step against violence in Nandigram during the anti-land acquisition movement. He is an arrogant person. But he should now do someting,'' he said.
Mr Das Munshi also called upon the State Election Commission to take strong measures against violation of the election code of conduct.
