BG line between Salem, Karur to be completed by 2010
Karur, Apr 18 (UNI) The work for gauge conversion between Karur and Salem, covering 81 kms, at a cost of Rs 230 crore, is expected to be completed by 2010, according to Southern railway, Salem, Divisional Manager, S Mohan.
Addressing a press conference here today, he admitted that there was a huge delay in completion of the project as there were lot of problems and litigation in land acquisition process. Now, all such problems had been solved and the work was going on in full swing, he added.
He said the work would start shortly for laying a new broad gauge line between Pollachi and Pothanur for a distance of 60 km at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore.
He also pointed out that the railway had sanctioned a new BG line between Erode and Palani for a distance of 92 km at a cost of Rs 250 crore and another new line between Kallakurichi and Chinnasalem for a distance of 16 km at a cost of Rs 50 crore.
