AP govt violated model code of conduct; Lok Satta to EC
Hyderabad, Apr 18 (UNI) The Lok Satta today alleged that the Andhra Pradesh Government had violated the 'model Code of Conduct' hours after the code coming into force by discussing the electoral strategy in the Cabinet meeting.
In a letter to Chief Election Commissioner, a copy of which was released to the press here, Lok Satta Party General Secretary DVVS Varma pointed out that the Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, yesterday discussed the poll strategy, aimed at furthering the electoral prospects of the ruling party in the by-elections to the Assembly and Lok Sabha.
''This is an outright and clear violation of the Code of Conduct, that too at the highest levels of the State Executive,'' the Lok Satta party in the letter said.
''The Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues are misusing their official position to gain advantage for its candidates in the coming by-elections.'' As per the model Code of Conduct norms, political party in power in the state shall not use the official machinery for electoral purposes.
