Tahasildar arrested on charge of accepting bribe
Bhubaneswar, Apr 17 (UNI) Rourkela Tahasildar Kailash Chandra Behera has been arrested and sent to jail on the charge of accepting illegal gratification.
Vigilance department sources said Behera was arrested under Prevention of Corruption Act last night while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from one Ramdin Sahu of Jalda for not cancelling the lease of the land, allotted to him in 1978.
Behera was forwarded to the court today which remanded him to jail till May 1.
In another case, the vigilance sleuths today seized property worth Rs 57,70,146 during a raid from the possession of Mahanadi North Irrigation Division, Jagatpur, Executive Engineer Basudev Mohapatra.
The search operation was continuing till the last report came in, the Vigilance department sources said.
