Rodrigues, Badal greets people on Mahaveer Jayanti
Chandigarh, Apr 17 (UNI) The Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh Gen (Retd) S F Rodrigues and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today greeted the people on the eve of Mahaveer Jayanti, the birthday of Lord Mahavir.
In a message, Gen Rodrigues said that Lord Mahavir was the apostle of ahimsa, peace and harmony and epitomised the spirit of non-violence, universal brotherhood, compassion and sacrifice.
In his message, the Chief Minister while felicitating the people on the auspicious occasion, called upon different sections of the society to follow the philosophy and teachings of Lord Mahavir, who propagated the principles of simple living and high thinking to achieve the ultimate goal of salvation.
Both the leaders called upon the people to follow the teachings of the great saint, to bring about social harmony and for the spiritual elevation of humanity and making the world an abode of peace and brotherhood.
