Ramadoss seeks extension of terms of referece for tapping probe
Chennai, Apr 17 (UNI) Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder leader Dr S Ramadoss today demanded that the Tamil Nadu government must extend the term of reference of the Judicial probe into the alleged phone tapping of DGP to phone tapping of leaders of all political parties.
In a statement here, he said,'' it was commendable that the state government had appointed a retired High court Judge to probe the phone tapping issue a day after Chief Minister M Karunanidhi made an announcement to this effect in the assembly.'' However, it was disappointing that the terms of reference of the Commission was limited to the phone tapping of the DGP.
As the officials of the BSNL have gone on record that phone tapping has become a routine after the DMK came to power, the terms of reference of the Commission should be extended to cover the alleged phone tapping of all leaders, including his phone and those of other PMK leaders.
All complaints of phone tapping should be subjected to the probe and people should be told on whose orders the phones were tapped and whether the intelligence wing had tapped the phones on tbeir own, he said.
Unless the probe covered all aspects, it would only be an eyewash, he added.
