Portal to empower utilities to face challenges in energy sector
Kolkata, Apr 17 (UNI) With a view to keeping utilities abreast of the changing scenario in the energy sector, a portal was launched here today by Infeon Network Private Limited (INPL).
Spain-based Mercados, an international consultant in the power sector, would be knowledge partner for the portal to support the efforts, while Descon Limited would be the marketing partner.
Speaking on the occasion, INPL Managing Director Sabyasachi Das said the portal-www.indianelectricity.com would provide a freely accessible platform to all the stakeholders, who could benefit from the information which the website would disseminate.
The portal would provide a forum for dissemination of information and facilitate discussion on important aspects and virtually act as an advisor, Mr Das observed.
'' India needs to add a whopping 78,000 MW of power to the existing capacity during the 11th Five Year Plan which will translate into huge investment both by public and private power utilities during the period, '' he observed.
'' Faced with this kind of scenario, the utilities will also have to operate from a monopoly-like situation to that a free market which will necessitate all the stakeholders in power sector to reasses and restrategise their businesses, '' Mr Das maintained.
