Land allotted to educational institutes is not for sale: CM

Mumbai, Apr 17 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today clarified in the State Assembly that educational institutes will not be allowed to sell the plots given to them by the government for educational purposes.

Intervening the statement during a calling attention notice given by Narsaiah Adam (CPM), in connection with attempts made by the management of Chinoy and L U M V Colleges of closing down their institutes, Mr Deshmukh said if any management is unable to run an educational institution, the government will take it over.

''The government will bring a bill in this session, making amendments in the Charitable Trust Act so that such things can be avoided,'' he said.

There is immense pressure on educational institutes for closing down and using the land for commercial purposes, but it will not be allowed, Mr Deshmukh said.
