Cabinet approves two schemes of Rs 429 cr for APEDA

New Delhi, Apr 17 (UNI) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today approved for implementation two schemes of Rs 429 crores of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) during the Eleventh Plan.

''The first scheme for Infrastructure Development with an outlay of Rs 229 crore for implementation while the second scheme is for Transport Assistance with an outlay of Rs 200 crore for implementation in the Eleventh Plan,'' a Cabinet spokesperson told reporters here.

A comprehensive study will be conducted, after two years, to evaluate the impact of these two schemes and to reformulate the same if needed, the spokesperson added.

The thrust of the support by APEDA under Infrastructure Development Scheme is on building infrastructure to facilitate export of agri produce.

The interventions to be made by APEDA during the Eleventh Plan period under the scheme are expected to result into increased exports.

Growth at a CAGR of 11.5 per cent for APEDA monitored products is targeted during next five years, going up from Rs 21,150 crore to Rs 36,510 crore and is expected that it will improve the competitiveness of Indian agri products in the International market.
